In April 2016, the Capital City Brass Band competed in and won the second section of the 2016 North American Brass Band Association Competition in Fort Wayne, IN. The band performed the test piece by Gavin Higgins titled "Fanfares and Love Songs" and Philip Sparke's "The Saga of Haakon the Good" as their choice piece and was directed by Travis Scott.
The Capital City Brass Band competed in the 2015 North American Brass Band Association Competition in Fort Wayne IN on Saturday, March 14. The group earned second place in the second section under the direction of Kenneth Kroesche. The group also had their 10-piece ensemble place first in their division.
The Capital City Brass Band competed in the US Open Brass Band Championships in Chicago, IL on Saturday, November 2, 2013. The group, comprised of musicians from across Michigan, earned third place overall in the competition and their musical conductor, William Waterman, won first place in the category of "best new arrangement or composition" for his arrangement of "The Carrollton March." The competition featured brass bands from across the country and allowed groups to enter by invitation only. Each brass band performed a thirty minute program and was judged based on musical variety, entertainment and execution. The CCBB was thrilled to compete and represent the state of Michigan.
The Capital City Brass Band 10 piece ensemble won the top score in the 10 piece brass ensemble category at NABBA 2013 in Cincinnati, OH. The group received marvelous comments from the judge and presented a very polished performance of three of the movements of the Porgy and Bess Suite.
